Welcome to Technology Class!

Immaculate Conception Catholic Academy students from 2nd – 8th grade will experience a technology infusion this semester which will be lead by Mrs. Bryant, our education technology instructor.

IMMAC has utilizes Google Apps for Education among the faculty and staff.  We are currently integrating Google Suite, which comprise of google document, sheets, forms and slides for 2nd – 8th students.  This allows the faculty and students to collaborate, communicate, and share information with each other at anytime and on virtually any device. Students in fifth through eighth grades have access to 1:1 Chromebook.  Kindergarten through fourth grade have thirty Chromebooks to share among themselves, allowing for small group and station rotation work.

In September, students learned the basic access of google accounts, learn how to access their assignment, and submit to their classroom teacher.  The younger students will learn how to access their reading program called “Super Kids.

In October, students have began  the program called “Typing.com” that will allow students from 2nd – 8th grade to develop their typing skills at their own pace.  While the young students will begin to explore sites such as Abcya.com and National Geographic for Kids.

In November, students will continue to progress with their typing program and expand their problem solving abilities through the concepts of coding.  Students will begin learn how to code from 2nd – 8th grade.  The young classes will be continue to work on SuperKids activities and story reading.  A new listening program will introduced to them called “Story Book Online“.  All students will begin to learn about begin to learn how to become responsible “Digital Citizen” by activity participating with Common Sense Media.

In December, 4th – 8th students will begin to explore the use of google presentation.  All students will continue to work on Code.org and “Typing.com”.  Younger students will be introduce to Computer Science and Common Sense Media.

The use of Chromebook throughout the academy grants teachers the unique ability to wirelessly manage all students accounts through Google Classroom. This ensures that students are on task and getting the most out of instructional time.

In order to fully engage students in the curriculum, each classroom has a SMART board.  With this technology, information can be wirelessly shared with the whole group, freeing teachers from the tether of the computer and enabling them to have more hand on time with the students.

With the ongoing development and implementation of new technology, Immaculate Conception Catholic Academy challenges students to demonstrate knowledge through innovation and brings the best of what 21st century has to offer into the classroom.
